Game On, Denver!
I have a confession to make: I love video games. Since their explosion of popularity in the late seventies with a little computer interface program called Pong, video games have influenced the lives of both children and adults over many decades and generations, and have even become a story-telling medium that rivals that of award winning films and novels. Whether it’s simple 8-bit platformers like Pac-Man, classic multiplayer party games like Mario Kart, or complex and open world based like Skyrim, it’s easy to get addicted to certain play styles, the ever increasing quality of graphics, voice acting, and writing, and just how much fun a great game can be. At the upcoming Alexan West Highland apartments, there’s an art exhibition coming into town that gives video games it’s proper credit, and since the Helikon Gallery is only fifteen minutes away, it’s impossible for video games enthusiasts or those curious to learn more to miss out.
Helikon Gallery and Studios is a contemporary, family-owned art studio that features breathtaking galleries and collections from modern day artists, especially from around the state of Colorado. They encourage anyone and everyone, regardless of background and experience with art, to visit, so admission is always free; however, you can purchase souvenirs at their gift shop or even rent out a studio to practice in a professional setting and let visitors come by to see their work or give short meetings or classes. It’s great for any art aficionado wishing to learn from other artists.
From November 3rd to December 10th, Helikon Gallery will present “Gameplay: a Tribute to Video Games,” an exclusive exhibition highlighting and inspired by video games. Featuring artwork inspired by the countless and memorable video game titles and franchises over the years, the exhibition is great for people who are hardcore gamers or who are just interested in learning more all while looking at amazing contemporary art. Admission is once again free, accessible during regular business hours, and some of the art pieces will be on sale for affordable prices, so you can take a piece of all the gaming artwork with you and decorate your home with.
So grab your controllers, prep your fingers, and start your next save file. Visit the Helikon Gallery and Studios at Denver this upcoming month, and then see even more artwork when you choose Alexan West Highland as your new home in March 2017.
